With more than 30 years experience in the creative industry as a book illustrator, graphic designer and production manager for retail, my discovery and love of open water swimming led me to doodle a number of 'pattern inspired' illustrations.
A few friends have even said
"They are so much more than a doodle!"
I enjoy the feeling of absolute freedom that literally immersing myself in nature brings! I began open water swimming a few years ago, regularly participating in the Great Swim series of swims in Windermere, Loch Lomond, Alton Water, and London Docklands and the Outdoor Swimming Society's Dart 10K.
Sadly, a couple of other big events were cancelled due to the pandemic, but I'm hoping to complete the Scilly Island Swim later this year.
My other passion, ever since I was a child, is being creative and I have built a profession on it over the last 30 years. Unexpected downtime from work, another knock-on from the pandemic, meant I had time to pick up my sketchbooks again. These illustrations are the result of playing with new styles and techniques, initially for my own pleasure; until people started showing an interest and asked if they were for sale!
After seeing some of my illustrations, I received a number of requests for commissions from 'old' friends and 'new' friends who saw my work on Facebook.
A massive thank you to fellow open water swimmer Jonathan and Danielle at Redricks Lake, who have been so encouraging and complimentary about my work. Most of my drawings are of the gorgeous open water venue. When I couldn't swim there, due to the pandemic, I started drawing it instead!
